What is Advanced Search?

Advanced Search is a powerful tool designed to help you find the right investors faster and more effectively. It serves two essential purposes:

1. Streamlined Discovery – It helps you cut through the noise and identify investors who are relevant to your specific needs, saving you time and effort.

2. Strategic Fit Assessment – It highlights key details about each investor or firm, enabling you to quickly evaluate whether there's a strong alignment between what you’re looking for and what they offer.

With customizable filters like investor type, investment stage, and screening preferences, you can generate a personalized list of potential matches—making your outreach more targeted and meaningful. Whether you're just starting your search or refining it as you go, Advanced Search gives you clarity and control throughout your fundraising journey.

How to Set Up Advanced Search

• You can go directly to https://distill.fyi/search/advanced.
• You can click on the search bar and select the Advanced Search dropdown.
  
• You can also try it during onboarding.
  
• You can access Advanced search on your Dashboard after onboarding. This will be at the bottom of your Dashboard (see the article to learn more). 
  
  
  
  

1. Choose the Search Type

• We currently support investor searches only, and general people searches and companies will be available later. 
  

2. Tell us what you're looking for

• We currently support only profiles and users within Distilll. 
• Coming soon: Search within your mutuals, other people's connections, your extended network, or a specific List in the future (see How Lists work). 
  
  
  

3. Specify the type of Investors you're looking for

• VC Firm - firm investing in starts for high-growth returns
• Angel Syndicate - invests in startups through an angel syndicate
• Startup Accelerator - invests in startups through an accelerator program
• Startup Incubator - invests in startups through an incubator program
• Venture Studio - invests in startups it develops internally 
  
  

4. Define the Investment stages:

• Pre-seed
• Seed
• Series A-D+
• Other
• Confirm whether you’re looking for a lead investor
  

5. Screening preferences

• Give us a description of what you're looking for and we'll generate tags based on your request. Include all keywords here. 
• From your description, we'll generate tags that will help us with your search. You can include them yourself or choose any of the suggested tags.
  

6. Press ‘Create Search’

• Once your criteria are set, press Create Search to generate a tailored list of potential investors.
• If you are not ready and you would like to modify any of your steps, press the step number to go back to that step or press "back" at the bottom of the search modal. 
  

FAQ: How do I start a new search?

• • A: You can start a new one by pressing 'New Search' in your current search query, or you can start a new search anytime by clicking on the search bar to start a new Advanced Search. However, you can modify your existing Advanced search, see Refining your Advanced Search results
